Peconic Bay Medical Center Recognized for Safety Excellence
Peconic Bay Medical Center has received its fourth consecutive ‘A’ rating for hospital safety from The Leapfrog Group in its fall 2024 report. ‘A’ is the highest possible safety grade offered by the ratings agency, reflecting the hospital’s focus on enhancing the patient experience and investing in implementing new technology to offer the most advanced level of care to residents. The recognition has greater meaning this year as it follows the official opening of the Poole Family Trauma & Emergency Center and the hospital seeing record numbers of both critical care patients and patients to a wide range of its specialty practices.
“As a community hospital, the leadership and medical teams at Peconic Bay Medical Center understand that safety is paramount, and we are driven by the responsibility we have to provide care that meets the highest standards,” said Amy Loeb, PBMC president. “This fourth consecutive ‘A’ safety rating speaks to our team’s unwavering commitment to helping make Eastern Suffolk County a place where residents and visitors feel confident in the quality of their care.”
Updated twice per year, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades are intended to draw attention to assist patients in making informed decisions about where to seek treatment based on how safe a hospital is for patients. To achieve an ‘A’ safety rating, PBMC’s patient care was studied in several categories, including preventing and responding to patient harm, health care-associated infections, maternity care, medication safety, complex adult surgery, total joint replacement and care for elective outpatient surgery patients. PBMC received exemplary scores in each category.
