Cancel Culture

Sara R. Throne ruefully laments that Optimum/Cablevision has included a news network in its cheapest and most basic service that she finds offensive to her fragile sensibilities [“Pull The Plug,” Letters, January 28]. Ms. Throne is now on a crusade to force Cablevision to remove this service because of its subversive content.

No exchange of ideas is permitted in the elitist cancel culture of our liberal brethren. This is the very same elitist cancel culture that wishes to rewrite history by changing the names on public schools named after our Founding Fathers, and even finding fault with Abraham Lincoln.

I imagine that Ms. Throne would be steadfast in having Fox News removed from her cable provider, and Tucker Carlson should be gleefully pilloried in the public square for his radical ideas. History and facts be damned if they don’t suit her delicate beliefs and conflict with logical discourse. Our liberal elites know what is best for the nation.

She is in such famous company as the Spanish Inquisitors and the Catholic Church, who stifled any conflicting views contrary to the edicts and interests of the church. Imagine no Copernicus, Kepler, Galileo, Da Vinci, Darwin and, more recently, John Scopes for trying to teach evolution in high school.

Her club runs long and deep and with total disdain for history and fact. The CCP, during the cultural revolution, succeeded in purging much of China’s long and illustrious history and culture as the leadership destroyed ancient statues and monuments to a time past.

Ms. Throne is reticent to consider any alternate news sources, only the 24/7 barrage of the mogul-owned mainstream media that also embraces the censorship by the mega corporations of Amazon, Facebook, YouTube and Twitter to determine the news that is fit to consume according to her beliefs.

The following is a brief list of what she surely missed in her narrow world:

A MAGA-hatted demonstrator pleading with the body-armored Capitol Police, who are standing down and watching as rioters overtake the Capitol and are trying to smash windows. He begs them to do their jobs and end the attack.

In another similar instance of police inaction, a group of MAGA demonstrators form a human ladder to pull down a rioter who is attempting to shatter glass of another window. Again, their pleas for action are ignored by the police.

A Capitol policeman moving aside a barrier and allowing the demonstrators to simply walk onto the Capitol grounds.

Most disturbing of all is video of a policeman shown moving aside a barricade and allowing access to the Capitol grounds of three van loads full of people dressed in signature Antifa black garb, balaclavas and backpacks.
