Captain Donald Edward Pullman of Bridgehampton died on July 14, after a yearlong battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 83.
Captain Pullman was born and raised in Manhattan and graduated from Rutgers University, where he was a member of the rowing team for four years. After graduation, he joined the U.S. Air Force, where he was chosen to train as a single-seat F-86 fighter pilot, and he served during the Korean War. After his military service, Captain Pullman joined Trans World Airlines as a jumbo jet captain for 34 years until his retirement in 1990. During his last four years with TWA, his wife of 27 years, Sandi, would often accompany him on his flights and together they visited almost every major European city. They traveled extensively throughout Europe.
Captain Pullman and his wife moved to Southampton in 1985 and lived there until 1994, when they moved to Bridgehampton. They also have a home in Florida. Captain Pullman was an active volunteer with Southampton Hospital for more than 15 years and with the Civil Air Patrol in Florida.
In addition to his wife, Sandra Woodward Pullman, Captain Pullman is survived by a daughter, Susan Pullman. He was predeceased by another daughter, Patricia Pullman.
