Captain Leigh H. Schroeder of East Quogue died January 1, 2023 at the age of 75.

He grew up in New Hyde Park, and graduated from New Hyde Park Memorial High School. Then he furthered his education and received his bachelor’s degree in business management from Adelphi University.

He had a passion for boating and fishing, and was known to many as the “Admiral.”

He was a professional captain over the years who ran many boats from as far north as Maine to Mexico. He was also an avid reader who often read a book a day. He was well loved and will be deeply missed, his family said.

He was predeceased by his parents Joanne and Edward P. Schroeder Esq. He is survived by his wife Joanne; and son Jeremy Allen of East Quogue; his brother Scott Schroeder Esq. of West Palm Beach; sister Lynda Schroeder (Jay Gould) of Glen Head; nieces Sara Gould, Annabel (John Riordan), Allison and Emily Schroeder; and great-nephew Eloise Riordan.

Visiting will be at R. J. O’Shea Funeral Home in Hampton Bays Friday, January 13, from 4-7 p.m. There will be a Mass at St. Rosalie’s Church in Hampton Bays on Saturday, January 14, at 10:30 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to an organization of charity of one’s choice.
