Carol McCahey Routh O’Neil
Carol McCahey Routh O’Neil of Hill Street in Southampton, and granddaughter of Frederick Miller, the founder of Miller Brewing Company in Milwaukee, died at Southampton Hospital on Wednesday, July 6, of complications from surgery. She was 83.
A long time resident of Greenwich, Connecticut, Ms. O’Neil was the ladies golf champion of the Stanwich Club and the Winged Foot Golf Club. She was a master gilder and restorer of antiques, and had many of her restorations hanging in museums.
She is survived by a brother, Frederick McCahey of Illinois; children, Carlos J. Routh Jr. and his wife Wendy of Water Mill, Joseph “Rick” Routh and his wife Deb of Colorado, Nina Routh of Colorado, James Routh and his wife Ellen of Allendale, Carin Routh and her husband Steve of North Salem and Maria Terry and her husband Larry of Massachusetts; and grandchildren, Alexandra “Lexie” Routh, JohnCarlos Routh, Daniel Routh, Patrick Routh, and Brendan Routh. She was predeceased her husband, Eugene F. O’Neil; a brother, James and sisters Claire O’Neil and Neitz Grey.
A funeral Mass was held Saturday, July 9, at Our Lady of Poland Church, in Southampton. Interment was private.
