Carole Arcuri died on July 27, surrounded by her husband and two sons at St. Francis Hospital in Roslyn. She was 77.
Born on December 1, 1938, in New York City, she was the second of four daughters of Frank and Carolyn Benigno. On September 12, 1959, she married Anthony Arcuri and they raised two sons together in Freeport. One of her greatest personal accomplishments was graduating from Hofstra University with a master’s degree in education. Survivors said, she was a passionate and dedicated teacher, working as an elementary school teacher in the Freeport School District; she received the teacher of the year award on more than one occasion.
When she retired in 2001, the couple moved to East Quogue to be near the beach, a favorite place of hers, and to spend time with her family. When she wasn’t saying her prayers, she was “Mimi,” a grandmother who fueled her grandchildren’s imaginations. Survivors said she was strong, intelligent, caring and inspirational to those who knew her.
She is survived by her husband of almost 57 years, Anthony Arcuri; two sons, Christopher and wife Maria of Florida, Glen and wife Gina of Quogue; four grandchildren, Christopher Jr., Ashley, Courtney and Jenna; and two sisters, Jean Graffeo of Connecticut and Joanne Pazienza of Florida.
Visiting was last week at Follett & Werner Funeral Home in Westhampton Beach, followed by a funeral service at Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church on Quiogue.
