Carole Bunter (nee Armstrong) of Southampton died on Thursday, August 9, from complications of Alzheimer’s disease. She was 82.
Born in Quinsy, Massachusetts, her family moved to West Bath, Maine, in 1941, where her father founded the New Meadows Inn. She married William A. Bunter of Connecticut in 1953, the same year she graduated from the University of Maine with a degree in education. She later earned a master’s degree at Loyola College in Baltimore and completed a sabbatical at Oxford University in England.
A teacher in the Catskill schools until moving to Ellicott City, Maryland, where she also taught, she retired in 1992 and moved to Arrowsic Island in Maine. She continued to teach as a substitute in Maine before moving to Southampton in 2002.
She is survived by three daughters, Judith Ruggiero of Connecticut, and Nancy Bunter and Susan Price, both of Southampton; and four grandchildren, William, Robert, Samuel and Madeline.
A memorial service will be held at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Southampton on Saturday, September 29, at 11 a.m. The Reverend Peter Larsen will officiate.
