Carolyn M. Skidmore
Carolyn M. Skidmore, a lifelong resident of Hampton Bays, died on October 11 at the Hampton Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing in Southampton. She was 84.
The daughter of Jarvis Skidmore and Imogene Warner, she graduated as valedictorian of the Hampton Bays High School class of 1944 and attended New Paltz State Teacher’s College, where she received her degree in education in 1948. She subsequently earned her master’s degree from Hofstra University in 1957.
She taught for several years at an elementary school in the East Meadow School District. She was also a member of the alumni association at New Paltz and belonged to the Retired Teachers Association of Long Island.
In addition, she was a lifelong member of the Hampton Bays United Methodist Church and volunteered in various capacities, including serving as church historian for many years.
She is survived by a brother, George Skidmore of Hampton Bays; and her “adopted family,” Rick, Debbie, Rick Jr. and Danny Martel of Hampton Bays.
The family received visitors on October 13 at J. Ronald Scott Funeral Home in Hampton Bays. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 14, at 1 p.m. at the Hampton Bays United Methodist Church in Hampton Bays.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Hampton Bays United Methodist Church, 158 West Montauk Highway, Hampton Bays, NY 11946 would be appreciated by the family.
