Carolyn Marie Pharaoh of Sag Harbor died on August 13 at Stony Brook Hospital. She was 82.
Born on September 25, 1937 to Samuel D. Pharaoh and Mary E. Brewer-Pharaoh, Ms. Pharaoh was one of eight children, all of whom predeceased her.
She was born in Sag Harbor in the family home, and attended Pierson High School, graduating with honors in the class of 1955.
She was the family caregiver, according to her family members, who noted that she loved children and helped to raise her nephew Robert, and in later years, his daughter Tami, as well as numerous other nephews.
Ms. Pharaoh mastered many household tasks. She was a great cook, and handed down many Native recipes, made homemade jellies, and was a very talented seamstress as well, her family said. She was an avid bird watcher, loved reading, crossword puzzles, music and was a huge fan of “Jeopardy.”
Most of all, her family said, Ms. Pharaoh was very proud of her Montaukett Indian heritage. She passed down stories, history, and traditions to the entire family, as well as all others who would take the time to listen. She was a very quiet person and the “wisdom keeper” of the family, according to her loved ones, who noted that she will be missed by all.
A more complete obituary will follow at a later date.
