Catherine M. Openhowski of East Quogue died on January 15. She was 83.
Born February 18, 1926, to James Gilbride and Nancy King of Sag Harbor, she attended St. Andrew’s Roman Catholic Elementary School and Pierson High School.
Later in life, she worked at Lentin’s in Riverhead and then for 20 years at East Quogue Liquors.
She was a former president of the Ladies Auxiliary of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5350 in Quogue and for several years volunteered with the Dominican Sisters.
She is survived by two daughters, Diane Drost of Minnesota and JoAnn Doyle of East Quogue; two sons, David Doyle of Florida and Tad Openhowski of South Dakota; a sister, Nancy Sabbatini of Florida; seven grandchildren, Kelly Krantz and Samantha Drost, both of Minnesota, Sean, Cory and Robert Doyle of Westhampton Beach, and Rachael and Teddy Openhowski of South Dakota; and two great-grandchildren, Tyler and Kyle Krantz.
Three brothers, Charles, James and Denny Gilbride, and three sisters, Mary Schwiensburg, Peggy Perry and Joan Tebbe, predeceased her.
Funeral services were held on January 18 at St. Rosalie’s Roman Catholic Church in Hampton Bays, followed by interment at Oakwood Cemetery in East Quogue.
