Charles O. Theisen of Center Moriches died on May 25.
Known as “Opa,” Mr. Theisen was born the first of two children in New York, the son of the late Leon and Mabel Theisen. Graduating from Fordham Preparatory School in the Bronx in 1943, he went on to receive a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering from the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn in 1951.
A World War II veteran, Mr. Theisen earned two Bronze Star medals for outstanding courage and bravery for saving the lives of many in his battalion. After serving in the Army, he worked as a mechanical engineer. Survivors said he was a skilled woodworking enthusiast, handyman and artist. He enjoyed boating and the beach, the New York Yankees, and had a soft spot for cats. He was a proud and extremely dedicated grandfather, survivors said.
Mr. Theisen is survived by his wife of almost 69 years, Ann Theisen (Freilinger); three children, Lorraine McLeod of Nevada, Charles Theisen and wife Carol of East Moriches, and Kenneth Theisen and wife Myra of North Carolina; six grandchildren, Cheyenne Dryer, Jessica and Charles Theisen, and Brian, Mark and Thomas Theisen; and one great-grandchild.
A funeral Mass was held at St. John’s the Evangelical Church in Center Moriches on May 29. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Sinnicksons Moriches Funeral Home.
