Charles O’Shea Sharkey of Southampton died Monday, September 2, at the Riverhead Care Center. He was 85.
Mr. Sharkey was born at home in Westbury to Irish immigrants, Joseph J. Sharkey and Margaret Mary (O’Shea) Sharkey, and attended St. Brigid’s Catholic School and Westbury High School. He worked as a reporter for the Levittown Tribune before entering the United States Army during the Korean War. After military service he worked in the field of public relations for printing defense contractor Cordon Johnson Company in Bethpage.
Later he was the managing director for the Southampton Club, a private social club on First Neck Lane in Southampton. He is predeceased by his brothers, Joseph and John Sharkey, and daughters Erin Sharkey and Shawn Carol Sharkey. He is survived by two daughters, Kerry Sharkey Miller and Brigid Sharkey McMahon; a son, Charles O’Shea Sharkey Jr.; and six grandchildren.
A graveside service took place on September 4 at Southampton Cemetery with Father Paul Dahm officiating. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Brockett Funeral Home in Southampton.
