Charles S. Brown
Lifelong Southampton resident Charles Brown died on August 12, two weeks shy of his 92nd birthday. Born August 27, 1918, he served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Corps, 386th Service Squadron, in New Guinea and later served in the U.S. Army Reserve. He was employed as a greenskeeper at the Bridgehampton Golf Club for more than 60 years, retiring at the age of 88.
He is survived by five sisters, Mildred Annabelle Miller, Gladys Agusta White, Harriet Elaine Ross, Florence Marie Browngard and Ella Anita Ambrose; a brother, Jack Ronald Brown; a stepson, Wayne Dupree; a stepdaughter, Audrey Miller; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was predeceased by his wife of 25 years, Kitty Brown, in 1993; three brothers, George, Henry and Alfred; and two sisters, Mary Frances and Mable May.
The family received friends on August 16 at the Brockett Funeral Home in Southampton, where a funeral service was officiated by Reverend Joanne Utley, pastor of the Bridgehampton United Methodist Church. Mr. Brown was buried with full military honors at Calverton National Cemetery, alongside the cremated remains of his wife, Kitty.
