Choices To Make

I am angry with Gordon Herr and the Southampton Town Democratic Committee for taking away my choices in the upcoming election. They took away my choice in the race for town supervisor. They took away my choice for the town highway superintendent. I’m most angry that they took away my choice for the Town Board. They, however, got to make a lot of choices to get us here.

Gordon chose to hand the highway superintendent another term by cross-endorsing him in a deal gone haywire. Gordon chose to protect our town supervisor by maneuvering a race where she is in it unopposed. Gordon chose to challenge Sundy Schermeyer with an unvetted candidate. Gordon chose to put up only one candidate for Town Board, handing a seat to the Republican incumbents.

Gordon and his committee get all the choices, and we as voters are told to fall in line and do their bidding. It makes me angry.

I am choosing to use my voice and call it out so it never happens again. I want to do that from the committee, like I did for 13 years. I want to help find and vet candidates. But Gordon has chosen not to let me rejoin — leaving me no choice but to do it publicly in these pages.

Tom Neely has a choice. Tom Neely can choose to denounce these negative, baseless attacks against Cyndi McNamara, loudly and clearly. He can choose to take responsibility for his own campaign’s messaging. He can choose to tell Gordon he doesn’t endorse this negative vilification against Cyndi McNamara and stop it immediately.

I would love for Tom Neely to choose to highlight his achievements, whatever they may be. My anger has motivated me to choose to reelect Cyndi McNamara and Rick Martel.
