In the not-too-distant future, I understand that the Southampton Town Board will have the results of its Community Choice Aggregation competitive bid for electricity supply and be faced with choosing from at least three options: 100 percent renewable supply, a 50 percent renewable supply (which is 50 percent generated from within New York State and 50 percent generated from renewables outside New York State), and a third option, which is 90 percent generated from fossil fuels.
I hope the Town Board selects a renewable option for its CCA program. I’m terrified of the effects of climate change caused by fossil fuels.
The Town Board has always been in the forefront of protecting our environment. May they continue that leadership as they decide on the options before them.
