Christopher D. B. Root died February 16, 2019, at the McClure Miller Respite House in Colchester, Vermont. He was 65
Mr. Root was born in Stamford, Connecticut, on September 23, 1953. He was the son of Louis and Eleanor (Funk) Root. He grew up in York, Pennsylvania, where he received his early education. He spent summers in Southampton with his grandparents, playing tennis at the Meadow Club, and swimming in the ocean with his friends at the beach club. He attended St. Paul’s Preparatory School in Concord, New Hampshire, and continued his high school education at the Uppingham School in Leicestershire, England. He then attended the Inchbald School of Design in London. He cherished his time spent in England, and often spoke fondly of the memories he made with his older brother, Todd.
He started his career in New York City working for the Dancer Fitzgerald Sample advertising agency. He went on to join the family business, New York Wire Company in York, Pennsylvania, working in sales and marketing. He retired to Brandon in 1999, and pursued his passion for fine arts, antiques and interior design in a home décor store he opened in the town center. He loved history, language, music and art and had a keen eye for nuance and beauty, survivors said. He was an accomplished poet and expressed his creativity in many ways.
Surviving are his wife, Kathryn “Cassie” Root of Brandon, whom he married in Lancaster, Pa on December 12, 1987; two daughters, Kathryn “Kate” Hamill of Baltimore, and Kirsten Demarest Root of Vermont; two brothers, Francis Jerome Root III of Guernsey in the Channel Islands, and Peter Todd Root of North Carolina. He was predeceased by his parents, Bud and Joan Root.
A graveside committal service and burial will take place, at a later date, at Southampton Cemetery.
