Citing Rise In Local COVID-19 Cases, Sag Harbor Closes Village Offices

Sag Harbor Village Mayor Kathleen Mulcahy has ordered village offices closed until further notice out of “an abundance of caution” over a spike in the number of COVID-19 cases being recorded locally.

Ms. Mulcahy stressed that nobody in village government has tested positive and she would like to keep it that way.

“It was an easy time to close because it is a quiet time of year,” she said. “And with the spike in cases we have seen in the village, we felt it was a prudent decision. For eight months we had under 20, and now we are at 40.”

The mayor said the village hopes to reopen for normal business on January 4, but will not make a decision until after the New Year.

She added that the East End Supervisors and Mayors Association is encouraging residents to hunker down over the holidays and avoid any large gatherings in a bid to prevent the spread of the disease.

Ms. Mulcahy said that village employees would work remotely and return phone calls and email messages. The only scheduled meeting is village Planning Board, which will meet remotely Tuesday, December 22, at 5 p.m.
