Claude Lorenzo Eleazer of Southampton died on April 6. He was 37.
Mr. Eleazer was born to Karen Crippen and Ronald Eleazer Sr. on June 10, 1978 in Southampton.
Survivors said that he was a loving father who dedicated his life to his son and that he was known to drop everything to help those close to him. Those closest to him knew him as a sweet, kind-hearted person, who was a great listener and able to help you understand the other person’s perspective.
He worked at the Shinnecock Hills Golf Club and at Waldbaum’s. He was known for his jokes, silly faces and a memorable laugh.
Mr. Eleazer attended the Advanced Technical Institution in Virginia Beach, Virginia, where he refined his skills and talents as a mechanic. His passion for cars was reflected in his work; he loved cars and the way they worked and if there was a problem, his face lit up, because it was like he was taming a wild beast and it would obey his command. He later acquired a certification as a qualified welder. He has also worked as a groundskeeper, a deck installer for U.S. Navy ships, painter, landscaper, mason and even traveled up and down the East Coast doing powwows. Survivors said that whatever he did, he put everything into it and was proud of a hard day’s work.
He moved back home to be with his family in New York in October 2009. Shortly thereafter his son, Gaige Nootau Eleazer, was born on December 12, 2010.
He is survived by his wife, Jacqueline; his son, Gaige; his parents; stepmother, Donna; three sisters, Toria, Deanna and Shaunelle; four brothers, Ronald (DJ), Gabriel, Julian and Derrick; and a host of uncles and aunts, great-uncles and great-aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews.
A funeral took place on April 12 at the Hamptons United Methodist Church; Pastor Curtis Terry officiated. Burial followed at Shinnecock Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Brockett Funeral Home in Southampton.
