Clear Danger

Bruce Doscher’s letter [“Woke Vs. NIMBY,” Letters, July 6] makes the point that if Hampton Bays was incorporated as a village, we would be “masters of our own destiny.” My initial reaction is positive, although I would like to have more details concerning the implications of such a move.

Mr. Doscher lists sewage and regional transportation as two issues that might be addressed. He states that we have bigger problems than BESS to solve.

I think he should rethink that statement.

The residential exemption made for BESS facilities is a clear and present danger. We do not have the luxury of proceeding with incorporating Hampton Bays while the BESS facility is being constructed.

We need to deal with the situation as it presently exists. Those of Southampton Town in residential areas who shrug their shoulders and say that this precedent is not their problem will one day, under another Town Board, find that they too will be in line for a BESS “award.”
