Things are starting to heat up! The free Monday night outdoor concerts on the Montauk Village Green, co-sponsored by the Montauk Chamber of Commerce, start June 24 at 6:30 p.m.
Concert-goers should bring lawn chairs, blankets, coolers and picnics to these family-friendly performances. While there, grab an early dinner or call-ahead for take-out for a picnic on the lawn. First up in the series: the Lynn Blue Band.
A reminder that the Navy Beach restaurant’s cocktail party to benefit the Navy SEAL Foundation is on Saturday, June 22, from 3 to 5 p.m. The cocktail party will be the official kick-off to a seventh season of fundraising efforts at the restaurant. This year’s remarks will be provided by Tony Repinski, a former Navy SEAL who served our nation for more than a decade earning multiple honors for heroism while conducting hundreds of combat operations.
The event will feature cocktails and snacks from the Navy Beach menu. In addition, guests will be able to bid on silent auction items and purchase raffle tickets for several prizes. This Saturday, June 22, at the East Hampton Historical Farm Museum—that’s the one at the corner of North Main Street at Cedar Street—will host a presentation by John Goodman, an expert on baseball memorabilia. It starts at 1 p.m. Then, at 8 p.m., the movie “A League of Their Own” will be screened on the barn doors. Those attending should being a blanket or chair. Admission is free but donations are nice.
Next week, on Saturday, June 29, also at 1 p.m., but this time at Herrick Park, the East Hampton Historical Farm Museum will take a step back in time as the New York Mutuals Base Ball Club play the Brooklyn Atlantics in an exhibition game, the way it was played in 1864. Bring a lawn chair or blanket. Parking is suggested at the Lumber Lane long-term lot or John Marshall School lot.
Again, admission is free but donations are appreciated.

Sag HarborFighting Chance will award its Medal of Honor to the Yoga Shanti Studio and to its founders, Rodney Yee and Colleen Saidman, on Saturday, June 22, at the organization’s annual Summer Gala at the Wesnofske family barn in Bridgehampton.
Speaking of the honorees, Fighting Chance Founder and Chairman Duncan Darrow said, “For 10 years, Yoga Shanti, in partnership with Fighting Chance, has run Yoga for Cancer Patients, a free twice-a-week class for those entering long-term survivorship. Hundreds of patients receiving crisis counseling at Fighting Chance have also participated in the yoga program, typically for a one-year period. Many of the patients firmly believe that the yoga experience has helped to keep their cancer in remission.”
The Medal of Honor has been awarded by Fighting Chance, as part of its summer gala, for the past decade. Previous recipients include Dr. Louis Avvento, Robert Chaloner, Geoff Lynch and the Hampton Jitney, and Yusuf Hannun, Ph.D., head of the Cancer Center at Stony Brook Medicine.
The award is intended to highlight an individual or organization making “an extraordinary contribution to improving the quality of care for cancer patients on Long Island’s East End,” said Mr. Darrow.

Looking ahead, mark your calendar for the grand opening of the Carriage House Thrift Shop at the Southampton History Museum on Thursday, August 1, at 4 p.m. Admission is free. QuogueThe Church of the Atonement in Quogue will open for its inaugural services on Sunday, June 23, with The Reverend Amy Slater officiating.
Rev. Slater received a Master of Divinity from Virginia Theological Seminary and is the Senior Associate Rector at St. Mary’s Church in Arlington, Virginia.

Tonight, June 20, is the first free concert of the Westhampton Beach Gazebo Concert Series, and it features The Vendettas, performing 1950s and 1960s Rock ‘n Roll songs. All concerts are free, begin at 7:30 p.m., and are held at the gazebo. The rain location is Westhampton Beach High School. Next week’s concert will feature The North Shore Pops performing favorites from The Great American Songbook and Broadway musicals, as well as Sousa marches.
The Westhampton Beach Fire Department will hold a blood drive at the Sunset Avenue firehouse on Friday, June 28, from 2 to 8 p.m. One blood donation can save a number of lives and all members of the community are urged to donate. Following the success of its fall Art Studio Tour, the Westhampton Free Library will also host a summer Art Studio Tour, this one on July 20 and 21 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.
The tour will include visits to more than 25 local and professional artist studios, from Manorville to Westhampton to Remsenburg to Hampton Bays. A map will be provided with the purchase of a $10 ticket.
Tour attendees will have the opportunity to speak with the artists, watch them in action, learn about their inspiration, tour their studios and purchase artwork. The artists participating in the tour represent a variety of styles and mediums, including sculpting, oils, watercolors, graphic arts, photography, multimedia and more.
In addition to the tour, the library, as part of its “Dessert and Discuss” series, will host discussions with the artists at the library on June 23, July 7 and 14, from 1 to 2:30 p.m.

As part of its Dessert and Discuss series, the Westhampton Free Library will host a discussion on Thursday, July 11, at noon, with Rogers Beach manager Shaun Johnson and head lifeguard James Ridgely, who will speak about safety at the beach. Participants will learn how to read beach conditions and a few basic guidelines to ensure safety at the beach.
The library’s Monday night movie series on the Great Lawn gets started on July 1, at dusk. First up is “Jaws.”
Children of all ages are invited to the library’s summer reading celebration on Wednesday, June 26. The event will include an ice cream party at 2 p.m., a meet and greet with Captain Jack Sparrow at 4 p.m. and a Steel Impressions steel band concert at 6:30 p.m.

Take NoteThe 2019 AIA Peconic / Anthony DiSunno Scholarship Committee recently announced the winners of its scholarship. The goal of this committee is to support the development of aspiring young architects by presenting $7,500 in merit and financial aid scholarships to several deserving applicants enrolled in a course of architectural study at an accredited school of architecture. The winners are: Eitan Albukrek, a student at East Hampton High School who will attend Tulane University; Christian Demchak, Mattituck High School, going to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute; Leo Ellis, Bishop McGann Mercy High School going to Catholic University of America; Nicholas Kolb, Hampton Bays High School who will attend Roger Williams University 2021; and Zane Musnicki, East Hampton High School, headed to California Polytechnic State University.
The fifth annual St. Jude Hope in the Hamptons fundraiser will be held on Saturday, July 13, from 5:30 to 10:30 p.m. at Pinnacle Farm. The event will feature a horse-jumping exhibition during the cocktail hour.
St. Jude Hope in the Hamptons was founded in 2015 by Dave and Sue Birsdall of Water Mill, after their grandson, Drew, who was 2 years old at the time, was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. He was treated at St. Jude. As a way to give back to the hospital that saved their grandson’s life, their family founded St. Jude Hope in the Hamptons, originally held on their own farm.
