Bird chatter wakes me up most mornings at 4:30 — which is so annoying. Talk about early bird! But it’s rare to hear them when I am just falling asleep. What can be done about the infestation of the southern pine beetle in Suffolk County and elsewhere in the Northeast, where the beetle’s habitat has now been extended because of climate change? Fourth of July Parade Set

The annual Fourth of July Parade, hosted by the Commission on Veterans Patriotic Events, will take place on Friday, July 4, beginning at 10 a.m. at Railroad Plaza in Southampton Village. This year’s grand marshal is Robert Ross, recently retired as Vice President of Government and Community Relations at Stony Brook Southampton Hospital, in recognition of his longstanding service to the community. The Children’s Museum of the East End (CMEE) will celebrate its 15th annual Family Fair on Saturday, July 19, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. This year’s theme, Sweet Escape, promises a fun-filled morning designed for children and families to enjoy together.
