Eight local food pantries on the East End and North Fork will benefit from $114,000 in grants awarded to Long Island Cares. The grants will cover needs such as walk-in freezers, laptops, ovens and food trailers. Pantry leaders gathered to talk about the impact the grants will have on their respective communities. Heart of the Hamptons’ Executive Director Molly Bishop said it will purchase a walk-in refrigerator and freezer unit. “We are feeding over 2,000 people each week and struggling to have enough space to store the amount of food we need.” Vicki Littman, chairperson of the board of directors at East Hampton Food Pantry, said, “This grant will help to serve the 50,000 individuals we expect to feed this year. We’re so grateful for this generous assistance and all that Long Island Cares does to help fight food insecurity in our town.” COURTESY LONG ISLAND CARES
