The Westhampton Free Library celebrated its 125th anniversary on March 1 by distributing free tote bags to patrons and unveiling a new banner that adorns the front of the library building. The library opened its doors on Main Street on March 1, 1897, with a charter granted by the University of the State of New York and signed by Melvil Dewey, creator of the Dewey Decimal System. Since then, the library has relocated twice and undergone several expansions and renovations, including the latest in 2001. The library has also grown to provide numerous programs and services to community members.
