A large crowd gathered at Kidd Squid Brewery on Sunday for a community food drive and fundraiser supporting the Sag Harbor and Springs Food Pantries, both of which are confronting record demand amid rising food costs and reduced assistance programs. Organized by Shawn Sachs and Laney Crowell, and a team of local volunteers including Kidd Squid Brewery, the event drew steady donations throughout the afternoon, with families dropping off food and household items beginning at. noon. A community moment at 2 p.m. brought attendees together in support of the two pantries’ work, and featured speeches by Sachs, Sag Harbor Food Pantry Executive Director Evelyn Ramunno and Springs Food Pantry Director Holly Reichart-Wheaton, as well as incoming Sag Harbor Food Pantry Executive Director Terrie Diat, who will replace Ramunno at the helm of that organization in the new year. Early fundraising pushed the effort past the halfway mark of its $30,000 goal before the event even began, and contributions continued on site.
