Constance “Connie” Ann Burrows of Flanders died on April 27. She was 72.
Born December 29, 1942, to Zelotes and Dorothy Howard Toliver, both of whom predeceased her, in Greenport, she attended Greenport schools, where she played the clarinet in band and sang in chorus, carrying on the traditions of her musical family. She was known by her classmates to be “shy, sweet and reserved,” survivors said. She graduated from Greenport High School in 1961.
After high school, she attended business trade school in Manhattan for accounting. After receiving her certificate, she worked at Metropolitan Life Insurance. She worked at the Riverhead Savings Bank when she moved to Riverhead. While shopping for a gift in Riverhead at the local Carl and Bob’s, she met Martin V. Burrows Sr. of Eleuthera, Bahamas, and they married on August 29, 1964. The couple had two children, Martin V. Burrows Jr. and Carla Burrows.
Ms. Burrows was devoted to her family, survivors said, visiting her children quite often. She played the lottery, and loved to shop and keep up with the news. She dealt with diabetes and complications from it most of her life, but that never stopped her from living a full and productive life, survivors said. She enjoyed attending events around town and traveling. Her laugh was infectious and could be heard across the room, according to survivors.
She is survived by her husband, Martin V. Burrows Sr.; a son, Martin V. Burrows Jr. of Fiji, and daughter, Carla Burrows of Washington, D.C.; two brothers, Irving Henry Toliver and Edmund Zelotes Toliver of Germany; and a granddaughter, Femi Burrows of California. She is also survived by two brothers-in-law, John, and James and wife Rhonda Burrows of Nassau, Bahamas; Beatrice Toliver of Huntington and Sabina Toliver of Germany, Shirley, Rosemary, Marion, Joyce, Lilliest, Cathy, Bessie and Audrey of the Bahamas; two aunts, Addie Pace and husband Alvin of Peconic, and Viola Howard of Arizona; two uncles, George and Conway Toliver; and a number of relatives and friends.
Visitation was at Reginald H. Tuthill Funeral Home in Riverhead on May 8. A funeral service took place on May 9 at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Westhampton Beach. Interment was at Riverhead Cemetery.
