Contrast in Coverage

Last week was a bad week for Democrats. The Supreme Court struck down racial preference as a viable principle in addressing our racial inequities. In its ruling, discrimination was denied as the way to end discrimination.

This added to the fury the left has with this conservative majority for reversing Dobbs, the unconstitutional abortion rights standard. War drums beat for packing the bench with progressive justices.

Justice Clarence Thomas is the left’s whipping boy for daring to argue that race and poverty were not insurmountable in achieving a successful American life. Worse still, his personal story gave testimony to this very fact.

Then the left learned that Justice Thomas had openly accepted gifts of friendship, including trips and a real estate transaction, that they couched in terms of corruption used to smear his impeccable character, despite the absence of any violation of prohibited judicial or personal conduct. No nefarious connection in any way could be drawn from this activity except in the minds of those activist progressives who have found utility in anarchy, violence and intimidation.

A cartoon in this paper several weeks ago [July 6], which I found offensive, pilloried every conservative justice as anti-women, anti-democracy, anti-free elections, etc., all based on this court’s fealty to the original intent of our Constitution not to legislate from the bench.

Democrats have slow-walked accepting the anecdotal evidence and testimony as it mounted in the revelations of apparent influence-peddling by the Biden family. Whistleblower testimony from agents in the IRS and the FBI state that Hunter Biden was shielded from appropriate investigation and standard prosecutions. Possessed by the FBI since 2019, his laptop held mountains of incriminating leads that the Department of Justice sat on, ostensibly to prevent sinking the Biden candidacy.

In congressional testimony, the IRS whistleblowers stated that $17 million of foreign money was delivered to Biden family LLCs and then to them personally. Worse yet, Hunter didn’t pay taxes on it until he was being investigated for money laundering.

Democrats listening to the testimony tried to pivot away and went to their go-to piñata, Donald Trump. It was pathetic, and the hypocrisy of defending the Biden family business while impugning Justice Thomas’s character was shameful.

It still amazes that with all the explosive accusations, you might not have known about the biggest scandal in presidential history from the liberal media. This contrast in coverage is symptomatic of how Americans are badly served by our fourth estate.

If our election was today, we would have a choice between a disreputable narcissist (Trump) and an outright crook who has sold his public office to some of our sworn enemies (the Chinese Communist Party).

I wish it were a bad dream.
