Brian S. Connelly
Suffolk County Sheriff Dept. Correction Officer Sgt. Brian S. Connelly of East Quogue died at his home, on Tuesday, February 22. He was 50.
Mr. Connelly joined the Suffolk County Sheriff Department in 1989 and served for 22 years. He enjoyed the outdoors and fished, hunted, hiked and camped as much as possible in his free time. Survivors said, he was a firm believer that one of the most important gifts that anyone can provide is a simple act of kindness and that he was the type of person who would go out and help people if they needed anything even if they didn’t ask for help.
He is survived by his wife Mary; four children, Terence, Clare, Ian and Aidan Connelly; his mother, Lillian of Westhampton; siblings Cynthia Lauer and her husband Eugene of Patchogue, Thomas Connelly of Florida, Kurt Connelly of Bayside, and Richard Connelly and his wife Gayle of Westhampton; 11 nieces and nephews; and six grandnieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Thomas J. Connelly, and his brother, Terence Connelly.
Visiting hours and parish prayers were held on Friday, February 25, at the Follett- Werner Funeral Home in Westhampton Beach. A funeral Mass, with police services, was held at the Church of the Immaculate Conception on Saturday, February 26. Cremation followed at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery and Crematory in Center Moriches.
