Cynthia Ann Suskind, the wife of former Southampton Town Councilman Dennis Suskind, died peacefully on Sunday, September 7, after a brief illness. She was 79.

Born in Redwood City, California, to Carl and Lucille Leverenz, she attended Chico State University, worked for United Airlines as a flight attendant, and later studied music at The Juilliard School in New York.

She leaves behind a history of volunteer work with various charities and organizations, as well as a legacy of supporting every underdog she encountered.

She touched many lives, her family said, and all of them were improved by knowing her.

She is survived by her husband Dennis, who cherished her for 58 years; her children, Brian, John, Pamela, and Audrey; her grandchildren, Clara, Jack, Henry and Hannah; and her sister Pamela.

I must say, my stomach turned as I read the antisemitic diatribe Richard Smith submitted [“A War Crime,” Letters, September 4] about heinous acts apparently committed by the surrounded, out-gunned, out-manned Jewish forces defending themselves after the State of Israel was created by the United Nations in 1948. Thanks to the Southampton Town Democratic Committee for helping voters see clearly, in this upcoming November election, that the only truly qualified candidate for Southampton Town clerk is Sundy Schermeyer. The Democrats’ current candidate Mark Bernardo’s background is in the entertainment industry: ABC, CBS News and Sports — hardly credentials for town clerk. Visitor Fee

Tourism on the East End is booming, but the costs fall heavily on Suffolk County residents. Montauk, East Hampton, Southampton and Fire Island fill up every summer. Roads are jammed, beaches are crowded, and towns spend more on sanitation, lifeguards and public safety — all paid for by local taxpayers. It’s time for a fair solution: a visitor impact fee. A Different Time

I found Thomas Jones’s letter [“Lucky To Have LaLota,” Letters, September 4] very disturbing. He praises Congressman Nick LaLota without examples of accomplishments. He excuses LaLota for no town halls. Constituents cannot ask questions or voice concerns. I remember Congressman Otis Pike; perhaps Jones didn’t live here then. Serendipity

While paused in August traffic on the bridge into Sag Harbor, a movement and flash of gray caught my eye from the passenger seat.
