Cynthia E. Warner of East Quogue died on August 31. She was 71.
She was born September 18, 1951, to Doris and Charles Young, in Riverhead. She graduated from Westhampton Beach High School, and shortly after married Charles Warner. While starting a family, she worked at the Suffolk County Riverhead Center for several years, before switching gears and accepting a position with the food service company serving Westhampton Beach High School. She remained there for over 20 years before retiring, often sharing stories and connections she had with the students, staff and coworkers.
In her younger years, she enjoyed volleyball with friends and bowling on a local league with her husband for over 10 years, scoring various recognitions over the years.
Reading was a passion, and she could always be found in the middle of a Danielle Steel or Sandra Brown novel. She was an avid knitter and, over the years, created an assortment of fun animals for family and friends.
She loved sweets and dinner was often an afterthought, especially if Holy Moses cheesecake or rocky road fudge was on for dessert. She was an avid collector of Precious Moment figurines, and managed to far exceed the capacity of two large curio cabinets. She was passionate about Christmas and always made it a huge celebration, with mountains of presents and an incredible family dinner, including her famous sausage stuffing, (and dessert, of course!).
In later years, she loved to travel with her family and close friends. Tropical cruise vacations were a favorite, as well as multiple trips to Florida, where visiting Mickey Mouse with her granddaughters was as much of a priority as shell hunting on the beach.
She will be remembered for her love of family, her fresh strawberry jam and mincemeat cookies, love of Disney and all its magic, craft fairs, hummingbirds, and hibiscus flowers, which were always growing somewhere in the home. Her family said they will miss her love, support, guidance, and warm hugs and kisses.
She was predeceased by her parents, Doris and Charles Young; her brothers, Paul and David Young; and her son, David Warner.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Charles Warner; daughter, Barbie Freeman; son, Robert Warner; granddaughters, Emily and Jaidyn Freeman; brother, Pete Young; and several nieces and nephews.
Per her wishes, there will be no services.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the National Wildlife Federation (nwf.org).
