D. Irene Summers Gray of Johnson City, Tennessee, formerly of East Quogue, died on February 4 at Franklin Woods Community Hospital. She was 95.
Mrs. Gray was a retired nursing educator. She graduated from St. Luke’s Hospital in 1944 as a registered nurse, attended Columbia University and joined the Army Nurse Corps, attaining the rank of 1st lieutenant. Also, she developed the BOCES School of Nursing and School for Special Needs in New York and taught there for many years. She was a member of community emergency response team.
Survivors include a daughter, Norene Griffin of Johnson City; grandchildren Jennifer Hart of Florida, and Jim Griffin of Johnson City; great-grandchildren Heather Honeycutt and Cameron Honeycutt, both of Florida, Lochlan Griffin and London Griffin of Johnson City; a nephew, Charles Summers of Oklahoma; several nieces and cousins; and many special friends, including Catherine Kelly of New York.
She was the daughter of the late George and Daisy Summers and was preceded in death by her husband, William J. A. Gray; a son, James Allan Gray; a granddaughter, Amy Gray; two brothers, William and George Summers; and a sister, Martha Wasenda.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home in Greenville, Tennessee.
Interment was at Monte Vista Memorial Park in Johnson City.
