We had better wake up. Donald Trump is dangerous to our society, our standard of living, our freedom and our democracy. He may not be evil, but his blind self-regard makes him believe he is the most intelligent man in any room, above accountability, beyond reproach. In his world, his bathroom doesn’t stink.
Day after day, we watch a cascade of reckless decisions and shocking statements:
1. Stoking fear by spreading baseless claims that immigrants are spreading lawlessness in U.S. cities.
2. Unilaterally disrupting global trade with tariffs, alienating allies, and emboldening enemies.
3. Firing respected officials for publishing statistics against his political goals.
4. Attacking higher education as “racist.”
5. Filing lawsuits against law firms, simply because he can.
6. Targeting the media out of revenge.
7. Sending mixed messages on Ukraine while lives are lost. All the while, Vladimir Putin makes him look foolish.
8. Letting Israel’s violence escalate so that Gaza can become another Las Vegas.
9. Undermining educators, scientists, law enforcement and especially Capitol Hill.
The above is not politics as usual. It is a steady erosion of trust, truth and institutions. We live with the consequences of all the red and blue mistakes daily. The question is whether we will vote in every election to make things right.
God protect our country if we do not.
