David G. Carter Of East Moriches Dies September 25

David G. Carter of East Moriches died at Westhampton Care Center on September 25, 2018, with family by his side. He was 93.

Born November 20, 1924, in Center Moriches, the son of David Carter and Annie Belle Lilly, Mr. Carter raised his family in Westhampton Beach. He was a veteran of World War II, where he served in the U.S. Navy as a radio operator in the Pacific aboard a Landing, Ship Tank (LST). He had a career as a telecommunications engineer for RCA in Riverhead, and Piscataway, New Jersey.

Mr. Carter was a ham radio operator with call number WB2HIU. He enjoyed gardening and traveling. He grew up on Moriches Bay, one of his favorite places throughout his life. He graduated from Center Moriches High School and attended college while in the Navy.

He is survived by his children, Linda Prentiss and husband Michael of Ronkonkoma, Nancy Johanson and husband Albert of Remsenburg, Gayle Wagner of Riverhead, and Craig Carter and wife Suzanne of Speonk. He is also survived by grandchildren Heather Edwards, Lydia Prentiss, Elizabeth Wagner, Robert Wagner, Craig D. Carter, and Cole Carter; and great-grandchildren Paul Edwards and Matthew Elliott.

He is predeceased by his first wife, Patricia Ann (Johnson); his second wife, Shirley (Van Essendelf); and his brother, Russell Carter of New Jersey.

A funeral service was held on September 30 at Werner-Rothwell Funeral Home in Westhampton Beach, with interment on October 1 at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Center Moriches.
