David John Colburn
David John Colburn of Connecticut, and a summer resident of Southampton, died Saturday, April 16. He was 56.
Born in Hartford to Robert and Dalene Colburn (née Bush), he earned an associate’s degree in forestry and surveying from Paul Smith’s College, a bachelor’s degree in environmental biology and conservation from Southern Connecticut State University, and was employed at Yankee Gas in Connecticut. Mr. Colburn spent every summer in Southampton since he was a boy.
He was a member of St. Paul’s Church in Connecticut where he served on the Parish Council, a coach of both Berlin boys and girls soccer teams, a state soccer referee, a U.S. swimming official, first president of the Berlin Dolphins Swim Team Booster Club, and a member of Timberlin Men’s Golf League. He also loved playing darts and perfecting margaritas, survirors said.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth (Janelle); children, Janelle and Stephen Melnyk, Mary-Kate Colburn, Jeffrey and David M. Colburn, all of Connecticut; his mother, Dalene; siblings, Robert and Joan Colburn of Florida, Christine and Robert Nardy of Southampton, Constance and David Hanson of Illinois; five grandchildren, Matthew, Aiden, Noah, Grace, and Charlotte Melnyk; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass was held Wednesday, April 20, at St. Paul’s Church in Connecticut.
