Deeply Distressing

Sag Harbor is steadily losing both its historic character and natural beauty, an erosion that is deeply distressing. Yet, in light of the leviathan erected in the shadow of the Whaler’s Motel, this decline is sadly unsurprising. The approval of that unsightly structure clearly paved the way for future architectural offenses. Sag Harbor’s charming waterfront is the primary draw for the thousands of summer visitors who flock to our village. Erecting yet another imposing building sends a clear signal that more of the same is welcome, ultimately leading to the destruction of what was once a pristine, untouched jewel.

To make matters worse, a sprawling development is now proposed in the woodlands adjacent to Mount Misery.

This raises urgent questions: What is happening to our semi-rural landscape? How is this allowed to proceed? And, most critically, who stands to gain from these destructive proposals?
