SOUTHAMPTON VILLAGE — A report of a fire on Hill Street just before 4 a.m. on February 18 drew Village Police to the Shinnecock Indian Nation bonfire at East Gate Road and Hill Street that they have “been maintaining on their land in protest,” said police, who added that there was “negative additional hazard.” SOUTHAMPTON VILLAGE — A reported “smell of smoke” drew Village Police and firefighters to Meeting House Lane residence on the late afternoon of February 17, where a “light that was on the floor and was beginning to burn through the molding, was causing the smoke smell.” ... by Staff Writer

Southampton DWI Arrest for the Week of February 22

Heather Monaghan, 28, of Holbrook, was reportedly involved in a single-car accident involving a utility pole and a tree just after midnight on February 11. When Westhampton Beach Village Police arrived at the scene of the accident, they determined Monaghan was intoxicated based on field sobriety tests and a test for her blood alcohol content. Monaghan was charged with misdemeanor DWI. The location of the accident was redacted in a police report which did however note that Monaghan admitted to having two cocktails at Daphne’s on Main Street in Westhampton before getting into her Honda. by Staff Writer

Adam R. Hosa Jr., Formerly of Hampton Bays, Dies February 24

Adam R. Hosa Jr., a long-time resident of Boynton Beach, Florida, and formerly of Hampton Bays, died peacefully on February 24. He was 88. He was born on December 25, 1935, in Port Washington. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Carel; his two daughters, Elizabeth Leichman (Ivory) and her husband Dr. Gerald Leichman, and Debra Mckay-Garcia; his four grandchildren, Heather Romanski (Liam McGann), Joseph Romanski (Morgan Dexter), Brandi Mckay and Hayley Mckay; and his two great-grandchildren, Hunter and Gavin McGann.
