Oh oh. Now I’ve done it. I’ve drawn fire from the formidable Frances Genovese [“Disparagers of Truth,” Letters, May 1]. She, the most acerbic verbal arsonist to be found in this space, has gone back a month to come to the defense of Carlos Sandoval, who had me laughing out loud about a column he wrote back then.
I see no point in regurgitating my comments to facilitate or legitimize the rage Ms. G. seems to harbor for me. But if I may say, this outburst from her reminds me of a medium conducting a séance. Reading her incoherent verbiage reminded me of an utterance of foreign tongues. Several of them.
I’m an amateur psychologist, I freely admit, but the symptoms you, Mr. Sandoval, and many other good Democrats have been exhibiting are associated with Trump derangement syndrome. The only cure I know of is to stop taking every word he says literally. I suggest this with all the compassion I can muster.
I offer in my defense that the viewpoints as shared in this Opinion section are, and always have been, an alternative to the anti-Trump, anti-Republican columns and their columnists that have exclusive access to The Press’s pages.
I know President Donald Trump is quite a change from the previous administration. You remember it, don’t you, Ms. G.? Remember the one with the doddering old fool who couldn’t find his way out of a closet, who your fellow Democrats swore was doing a great job, even if we never got 10 coherent words in a row out of his mouth. Instead, we got the White House press secretary mannequin, who never made any sense, and the see no evil, hear no evil and definitely report no evil White House press corps.
Did you, Ms. G. or Mr. Sandoval (we know you didn’t), or the complicit Democrat Party ever demand a stop to the illegal invasion at our southern border? Remember the invasion of 20 million uninvited strangers into our land? Not a word. Crickets, until the election cycle, and then the border was expediently closed. Now, Democrats sing kumbaya as they link arms to protect the rights of the law-breakers who invaded our country. They sing and protest the denial of legal status for the uninvited, many of whom are criminals, drug smugglers, potential national security threats, or just plain old human traffickers.
What rationale rewards criminal noncitizens who broke our laws to enter with full due process? A requirement our judicial system admittedly couldn’t fulfill for decades?
Frankly, Ms. G., it’s the MAGA movement, in anguish over losing their country, that should be suffering from derangement, not the Democrats.
