Deteriorating Buildings

As predicted, there has been vandalism of the now-empty U.S. Coast Guard housing site in the Hampton West neighborhood. Despite constant letters and emails to the Coast Guard and elected officials, nothing is getting done.

As these buildings deteriorate they become more expensive to rehab (and less likely to be considered candidates for the town’s affordable housing plans). In fact, it is conceivable that the structures will deteriorate beyond restoration.

Meanwhile, the mere sight of this deterioration drives down the value of Hampton West, the neighborhood immediately to the south. It’s the same old neglect this neighborhood has experienced since its inception in 1976.

The residents are becoming more frustrated by the day. What will it take? Picketing the Coast Guard at Hampton Bays and/or Moriches?
