The golf course at The Hills in East Quogue has been getting regular play throughout the summer even though nobody is yet living on the property. After years of fighting with residents, environmentalists and Southampton Town over the golf course, Discovery won approval for it as an accessory use to the housing development. Residents this week questioned how an accessory can be built before the primary structures it was to accompany are occupied. MICHAEL WRIGHT
Discovery Land has begun construction on the first few dozen residences at the property and has asked to be allowed to construct up to 60 before it builds a required 12 affordable housing rental units, which the company has said it would like to pair the construction of with a possible staff housing facility for workers at the property's golf course.
