What transpired on January 6 in Washington, D.C., was nothing short of an attempt to overthrow the government of the United States by stopping the peaceful transfer of power and overturning the results of November’s election.
One effort was the violent assault on the Capitol, with some rioters chanting from the Capitol rotunda for the execution of Speaker Nancy Pelosi and the hanging of Vice President Mike Pence.
The second attempt was the effort on the House and Senate floor, through a legislative act, to deny the certification of the vote, to disenfranchise millions of Americans and nullify the election. Both acts were sedition.
It is incomprehensible to me that even after the horrific violent acts earlier in the day, Congressmen Lee Zeldin continued to support efforts to nullify the election by supporting baseless objections on the floor of the House. By doing so, he has made himself complicit in the assault on our democracy.
By his actions, Congressman Zeldin has disgraced himself, and he has disgraced us.
He owes us an explanation.
