Historically, parades are for people — which is why I was so surprised by the number of overheated, frazzled, desperate dogs being dragged around by attendees of Southampton’s Fourth of July parade.
There was even a float of dogs, some of which were lucky enough to walk on hot pavement in direct sunlight, surrounded by gunshots, motorcycles, live bands and crowds. It’s broiling, loud and chaotic — no place for most house pets.
I didn’t get it and am hoping people reconsider doing the same next year.
