Donald “Don” Williams of Ft. Pierce, Florida, formerly of Westhampton Beach, passed away on March 4, 2021, at the age of 88. He was predeceased by his wife, Ginny (née Trautschold) Williams, on January 30 of this year.
Mr. Williams spent over 30 years in retirement with Ms. Williams, the last 20 in Ft. Pierce near close friends and family, including his brother Harold.
Mr. Williams was born to Mary and Bill Williams on February 9, 1933, in Nanticoke, Pennsylvania. He was a three-sport athlete at Nanticoke High School and was named an all-state athlete in basketball, all-conference and all-scholastic in football and lettered in baseball.
He received a full scholarship in basketball to Mansfield State College where he met the love of his life, Virginia “Ginny” Trautschold. They married in 1957 and settled in Westhampton Beach, accepting teaching positions in the Westhampton Beach schools. Mr. Williams taught math at the junior high and history at the senior high school over a career that spanned 31 years and touched the lives of many students and faculty through teaching and coaching numerous sports, including football, basketball, baseball and golf. He was best known as the head basketball coach for 20 years and was respected and loved by his students and players.
Mr. Williams is remembered by family and friends as a very likable, friendly, loving man who would do anything for a friend in need and lit up the room with his positive spirit and sense of humor.
During retirement, Mr. Williams enjoyed traveling and cruising, golfing and playing poker and bridge.
He cherished the time he spent with friends and family, especially his children and grandchildren. He is survived by a daughter, Debbie LeMoine and husband Pat of Houston, Texas; a son, Bill and wife Shelly of Roswell, Georgia; four grandchildren, Rachel, Ryan, Finnley and Wesley; and a great-grandson, Hagan.
