Doris Madison of Southampton Dies August 31

Doris Madison of Southampton died on August 31 in Southampton. She was 87.

A viewing will take place Friday, September 12, from 10-11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Bridgehampton, with a homegoing service at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Calverton National Cemetery.

Late summer is reductive work. You harvest, take away the best, and plants, likewise, contract. The oldest growth — green leaves rimmed in death, tattered at their edge — cannot hide the fruit. Keep Us Safe

Lifeguards should be at Ponquogue Beach on all four weekends after Labor Day. Ponquogue Beach is the biggest and busiest beach in the Hamptons. If people know lifeguards are on duty, they will flock there. It’s not safe to swim in the ocean unless lifeguards are present. The concession stand does not have to be open.
