Doris McFarland, who lived in Riverhead with her daughter Rosaura Worrell, died on August 2 at the Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead following a long illness. She was 81.
Born October 25, 1927, in Bocas de Toro, Republic of Panama, to Estefania and Leonard McFarland, she grew up and attended school in the countryside of Panama and then moved to the city as a young adult. She later moved to Shreveport, Louisiana, where she lived for many years until moving in 2007 to Southampton to live with her daughter. The two women only recently relocated to Riverhead.
In addition to her daughter Rosaura, she is survived by another daughter, Mayra Blackman of Georgia; a son, Jose McFarland of Panama; 13 grandchildren, Sophie Worrell and Tessie Worrell of Southampton, Lionel Worrell of Ronkonkoma, Dee Campbell Saddler of Texas, Jay Peterson, Tammy Peterson, Tracey Peterson and Annie Julio of Georgia, Julio Peterson of California, Tony Innis and Tashania Innis of Texas, Michelle Lamar of Alaska and Jose Lamar of Panama; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by another daughter, Enriqueta Pryor.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 7, at 11 a.m., at Seay Memorial Chapel, Harrison Avenue, Riverhead.
