In 1959, she started working at Southampton Hospital, where she dedicated 10 years of service. She then spent 19 years at Gristede’s Grocery Store and 14 years at Bridgehampton National Bank, retiring in 2000. Throughout her career, she also held part-time positions at Schiavoni’s Grocery Store, Swezey’s Department Store, and Macy’s.
In March 1956, she met her husband, Marty Madison Jr., and they married that November. Together, they raised four children: Vincent, Avery, Kim, and Knovella.
She was a devoted member of The First Baptist Church of Bridgehampton since 1956, where she served on the Senior Choir, the Missionary Society, the Nurse’s Unit, and the Sisterhood. In 1972, she joined the Deaconess Board and later served on the Trustee Board. Her faith was evident in her commitment to the church and her participation in the Eastern Baptist Association and the National Baptist Convention.
She will be remembered as a devoted wife, loving mother, cherished grandmother, and faithful servant of the Lord, her family said. Her life was a testament to love, wisdom, and faith, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her and whose lives she touched.
She cherished her family and friends, including Francine Hopson, Thelma Harris, Betty Nichols, Ethel Riddick and Denise Dolliver.
