Dorothy “Dot” Winkler of Southampton died on January 15 after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. She was 93.
She was born in Bronx to Dorothy and George Fahrbach. There, she met her late husband, Walter Winkler. They were married for 66 years.
Formerly from Pearl River, New York, the couple retired to Southampton to join the family’s enclave in West Neck. She loved the community and became very active in the First Presbyterian Church, the Telephone Pioneers, the VFW, and the Power Squadron. She was an avid fundraiser and committee member of many of these organizations.
She was a life-long gardener, passing her love along to her children and grandchildren. She was a member of the Southampton Garden Club and the Rose Society. She organized many travel trips for the Pioneers. We will miss her vitality, her family said.
She is survived by her children William (wife Judith) and Linda Lewis (husband Floyd); five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at Brockett’s Funeral Home on January 21, with visitation from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and the service from 1-2 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation (parkinson.org).
