Regarding “Water Hogs of the Hamptons” [Residence, July 27]: The pricing for water should double for each doubling of use from the average. So at 130,000 gallons per year (or “GPY” — about 10,000 gallons per month), it’s $2.11 per 1,000, or about $21 per month; at 20,000 gallons per month (240,000 GPY), it would be a $4.22 per 1,000 — doubling for each doubling of use.
One million GPY would be about $16 per 1,000 gallons, or about $8,000 for the last half million gallons.
This would reduce water use by these hogs, as well as supply needed funds for remediation projects.
