Dr. Gerard R. Boll Jr. of Hampton Bays and Cortland, New York, died on Thursday, June 12, at the Cortland Regional Medical Center. He was 70.
Dr. Boll was born on August 9, 1937, in Mount Vernon, New York, to Gerard Rudolph and Agnes Hansen Boll, both of whom predeceased him.
He was a graduate of Iona Preparatory School in New Rochelle and earned a bachelor’s degree from Tulane Unive sity in New Orleans. He received his Doctor of Optometry degree from Massachusetts College of Optometry in Boston in 1962. He practiced optometry in the Cortland area for 45 years and was a member and president of the Cortland Free Library board, a member and president of the Cortland Rotary Club, and a member and president of the University Club of Cortland. Dr. Boll was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Cortland.
He was an avid fisherman and sports fan and enjoyed sailing and gardening.
Dr. Boll is survived by his wife of 50 years, Sandra Girard of New Iberia, Louisiana; two sons, Gerard Rudolph Boll III and Richard Patrick and his wife Romy Stauffer Boll, all of Arlington, Virginia; and two grandchildren.
A wake was held at the Wright Beard Funeral Home in Cortland on June 15. A funeral mass was held at St. Mary’s Church in Cortland on June 16; interment followed at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
