Drive-in movies will roll back into Southampton Village this summer, with film dates tentatively set for five Mondays: July 12, 19 and 26 and August 2 and 9.
The Southampton Village Board granted permission to the Southampton Chamber of Commerce last Thursday to screen G, PG and PG-13-rated movies in the Coopers Beach parking lot, with gates opening at 7 p.m. and movies starting at dusk.
Tentative costs are $40 per car for in-vehicle viewing with audio projected through FM car radios and $25 per car for outdoor viewing.
Hamptons Drive-In of East Hampton will operate the event, and chamber members will sell tickets, direct cars, clean up and sell popcorn and “glow” necklaces.
The chamber instituted drive-in movie nights last summer at the Elks Club on Route 39, but an unusually rainy season turned the fields muddy, leading the chamber to request the use of the Coopers Beach parking lot this year.
