‘Tis the season.The village is all decked out for the holidays and memories have been placed in front of Hook Mill for the two year remembrance of the loss of 26 Sandy Hook children.
Tonight is the high school’s Winter Concert at 7 p.m. Remember that the school’s winter recess begins on Monday and runs through January 5. The season is here! The Jewish Center of the Hamptons is hosting a variety of Hanukkah celebrations. Tonight there will be a Hanukkah Family Celebration from 5 to 6:30 p.m., and on Saturday, the JCOH will have its Hanukkah celebration at 6 p.m. Visit www.jcoh.org for more events.
On Friday, at 3:30 p.m., attend the public lighting of the menorah on the fourth day of Hanukkah in Herrick Park. Hot latkes will be served. Th event is free.
On Friday, at 6:30 p.m., join Hugh King, East Hampton’s town crier, Barbara Borsack, a Historical Society trustee, and Richard Barons, the society’s director, as they lead their lantern tour of Main Street, which includes several of the village’s historical buildings, such as Clinton Academy, the Osborn-Jackson House, and Home Sweet Home. Participants will meet at Clinton Academy at 151 Main Street and proceed from there, stopping in front of the old buildings and hearing Mr. King’s lively commentary that brings to life the stories of the former inhabitants. Participants can also go into three of the buildings to experience how they looked in olden times. You can make reservations at 324-6850. Advance payment is required and is only $15 per person.
On Friday, at Guild Hall, at 8 p.m., is the film screening of Handel’s “Messiah.” Christopher Hogwood conducts a performance by the Academy of Ancient Music and the Choir of Westminster Abbey of Handel’s most well-known and beloved oratorio. The recording takes full advantage not only of Westminster Abbey’s fine acoustic qualities but also the incomparable architectural splendor of the surroundings.
