The two candidates in next month’s Democratic Party primary for the special East Hampton Town Board election in November will meet at a forum on Tuesday, September 4.
Councilman David Lys and David Gruber will face off at the East Hampton Village Emergency Services Building on Cedar Street in East Hampton at 7 p.m. The debate is being hosted by the East Hampton Group for Good Government. It will also be recorded and broadcast by LTV.
Only registered members of the Democratic Party may vote in the September 13 primary.
The winner of the primary will face Republican nominee Manny Vilar in the November 6 general election.
Mr. Lys was appointed by the other four members of the Town Board last January to the council seat that was vacated when Peter Van Scoyoc was elected supervisor. Two years remained on Mr. Van Scoyoc’s term, and Mr. Lys was appointed to fill the seat only until the end of 2018.
The winner of the November election will serve just one year on the board, after which the seat will be on the ballot again for a full four-year term.
